another year PreK

Sorry I have been MIA from blogging - life has been busy and we have had a roller coaster of a week last week between work and home life.  Glad this week is a fresh new week and I am actually on a short LA trip for work.  Which to be honest I needed some time away to decompress, renew my spirit, read a few books on the flight, and watch adult TV.  Can I get an AMEN!

Anyways I wanted to write a post about Grayson and our decision to keep him in PreK another year and not to start Kindergarten this year.

Grayson in fact turned FIVE on May 17, 2015 and YES he could start Kindergarten however as his parents both of us agreed over a year ago that we would be holding him back one additional year.  Socially I think Grayson needs more time to mature.  He struggles daily with wanting to go to school and leaving his mommy.  In addition I was comparing Grayson to other kids his age at his school and he wasn't doing things that other kids his age could do... he had NO interest in writing his name and in fact he didn't learn and start writing his name until April.  I have learned over the past year that Grayson is someone that just needs to be pushed to do things and no or I can't is not the solution.  We now are instilling the "I will try my best," attitude with Grayson.  Because what I learned after I switched teachers in April with Grayson that he can in fact do a lot of things, but he was not pushed to do so... if he said no they would just let him be.  His new teachers encouraged him and cheered him along the way and showed him that he can do things on his own along with a tutor that we hired for about three months.
We are also trying different social activities to teach Grayson and show him it is okay to be away from mommy and daddy and we will be there to cheer him along the way.  He just started soccer about a week ago and his first practice started with the following, "mommy just cancel this!"  I told him that once we start something we can't quit and that cancelling it was not an option.  Instead I told him that he had to go and try his best and that mommy and daddy would be on the side watching and cheering him on.  It was painful to watch how sad Grayson was at the beginning and he just didn't want to be there, BUT about half way through he realized this was FUN.  At the end of the practice Grayson came running to us and said, "mommy you don't have to cancel soccer."  The reason I share this is it would have been easy just to take Grayson home because it would have made him happy in that moment of sadness, but as a parent sometimes we have to do "tough" stuff and let them experience moments that make them nervous or anxious.  In the end for this situation it was a win win and I know in my heart we made the right decision to push Grayson.

Now back to the Kindergarten Topic - I have no doubt that Chad and I made the best decision for Grayson.  I would personally rather hold him back now than in future grades when he is more aware of what is going on.  He doesn't ask "why" he isn't in Kindergarten - if it comes up I just tell him when he is SIX it is his turn.  I just pray that when he is SIX he is more than ready to step out of our car and walk those footsteps to Elementary School with confidence that I GOT THIS Mommy!  I want him to be excited each and every day for school especially for Kindergarten because boy oh boy he has many years ahead of him.

I am not expecting that Grayson will be well above others when he enters Kindergarten, I just want him to be socially ready to take those steps with his own confidence and not me pushing him to go to school every day.  Parenting is hard and there is no manual stating what to do and what not to do as parents.  I am just following what I think is best for my kids and consulting others where needed.  We all need to support one another and cheer each other on as parents.

So on the EVE before Grayson enters PreK again this year my hope is that he walks out of Ms Melanie's, Ms Marcia's, Ms Alex's, and Ms Drew's class with confidence, following rules, excitement for learning and exploring, and a love for school.  I am sad that I won't be taking both my boys to their first day of school tomorrow, but they are in good hands with daddy.  To my fun loving boys mommy loves you both and I hope you have a great first day at school.

have a beautiful one,

our "new" school

Sorry I had planned to post this last week, but than life happened and well Crew got really sick.
Upper respiratory infection and a double ear infection!
Poor little one...he was miserable...

I spent a lot of the week holding and snuggling with crew!
HE is 100% better and praise the lord because this mama is leaving tomorrow night for a trip and I wanted him healthy before I left... sick kids are no fun!

Now back to my original post...

I often get asked how is our new school going?
IT IS GOING extremely WELL!
I am happy with the size of the facility, our teachers, the attention to all the small details, and all the FUN stories Grayson comes home telling me.
LAST WEEK Grayson celebrated BIG RED'S birthday at school he turned 5!  Big Red is a guinea pig...
HOW FUN and I just love how excited and fun his teacher's made this day for all of the kids!
They got to bring gifts for Big Red, they had cupcakes, and a pinata... how fun!  ALL for a guinea pig...love it!

Grayson picked out this adorable bag, strawberries and a few toys for Big Red!

Grayson is READY for the party!

Party FUN pictures from his teacher Ms. Emily

Some other fun photos from his teacher!
His class was learning about the letter L so they did several different things with one of them being tasting lemons and limes and experimenting with them as well.
As you can see GRAYSON had the best time!
and yes on this particular day Grayson wore his pj's to school
(mommy was out of town so he got to pick his clothes..ha)
G would wear his PJ's every day if I let him!

It warms my heart that Grayson is learning and even will come home and tell me about school and days later will talk about the things they have learned.  Like when we went to Walmart and he saw lemon and limes and he insisted that we buy some so he could eat them and make bubbles with them too.

He also told me that lemons start with the letter L!
Such a big boy and I am so proud of him!

Crew is doing well too!  He is starting to not cry at drop off and seems to be adjusting better.
He does this cute thing where he puts his fingers by his lips when I sing "if you are happy and you know it..." I am thinking his teachers taught him this.
Overall we are VERY HAPPY with our move and glad that our boys are adjusting!

Change is good...

Fall Decorations 2013

Happy Fall!

We spent this weekend getting ready for Fall and I don't know about you, but I am so excited about the cooler temps and spending the afternoon at the park or playing outside.
I am trying to get my boys outside as much as possible before the colder temps make a return!

For the most part I used our Fall Decor that we had in our house we sold two years ago... I didn't purchase anything.  I have a few things that I could add to our mantle and another piece in the living room.  We will see if I get a moment to go shopping and find something...

I love how everything turned out!
We also moved our living room furniture around as well as the playroom.  A fresh start to Fall 2013!

Now I need to start planning weekend trips to the pumpkin patch...
We went to Westwood Gardens this weekend to pick out the pumpkins and my boys loved climbing ALL over the pumpkins!

sleeping update grayson

Hi All!  I thought that I would take a moment out of my crazy busy week and let you know that bed time is going better with Grayson...

He hasn't had a night terrors since last Friday... I am not sure what was causing them, but I stepped back and started the process of getting him comfortable and making him feel safe in his room.  Which means I am laying with him until he falls asleep.
Baby steps right...

I am okay with doing this for some time and than I am going to move to sitting outside his door and hopefully "fingers crossed" we will be back to him going to sleep on his own.

I keep telling myself that he will only be little for a short time and the next thing I will know he will have nothing to do with me being in his room etc...

I will tell you that we did do something special and fun to get Grayson to sleep in his room.  We took him to build a bear and let him create a bear and guess what they have at build a bear... SUPERHERO bears!
Grayson picked out the batman bear and I sat down with him and told him about the special powers batman has:
~ he only stays in Grayson's room
~ if Grayson doesn't sleep in his room with his batman bear he will fly away to his cousin Drew's house in South Dakota and sleep with him because Drew sleeps in his room
~Batman Bear protects Grayson when he is sleeping

I go one step further and make a point that Batman Bear disappears each day and flies back before bed time.  I move batman bear all over his room and sometimes I pretend to knock on the front door and batman is at the front door waiting for Grayson... the imagination of it all is working and has been SO FUN! (it is like elf on the shelf, but with batman)

I just love this age because if you make anything FUN, at least for my little guy, he lights up with excitement!

1st day 'new" school

our boys started their 1st day today at a new school!

I was nervous for them... especially Grayson because he doesn't do well with new places or new people.  He is my shy one...
Crew I knew would do just fine he is my child that is the life of a party.

Before leaving the house we did a little 1st day photo session... always GREAT fun...

They didn't get the concept of holding the sign and letting me see their eyes... it was fun and by the end I was a sweaty mess!

Glad I captured these moments that are not perfect but it displays who they are at this age!
Love these boys!

Daddy joined us at our first day of school to help with meeting the new teachers and classroom.

Crew instantly ran in and started playing.  He was completely fine and has the sweetest teachers Ms. Loretta and Ms. Shelly
He has already made friends with Ms Shelly.

one of the things I love about the new school is they send me pictures of the boys and let me know how they are doing...

Grayson was shy and nervous... I stayed and tried to make him comfortable and get to know his teachers and new friends.  I spoke with his teachers in detail and I know that Grayson is going to LOVE Ms. Emily and Ms. Lauren.  They seem like the PERFECT fit for our little handsome guy!
His teacher text me already and he is playing with the other friends in his class and having a great time.

Can't wait to see them at the end of the day and hear all about it!

night terrors

our little guy Grayson is having night terrors this is night three of it taking place for hours.  It usually is just the first few hours that he is asleep, but last night it was ALL night long.
I feel so sad for him.  He wakes up and cries, screams, runs around the house like he doesn't know where he is or who we are, and he is shaking all over.
He never wants to go back to his room he always wants in our room... I don't want to make it a habit that every time this happens he gets to sleep with us.  But I don't want him to be scared of his room.  Last night I laid with him and held his hand until he fell back to sleep, but not even an hour later he was up again with night terrors.  So at this point it was midnight and I needed sleep so I just let him sleep in our bed.
Any tips?  Will he out grow this?  What is the best method when he wakes up with these terrors?  Should I just hold him and let him do what he wants to do?  Do you think he is getting enough rest at night when this occurs?  Do you think he remembers in the morning?
I asked the question on instagram last night after the second time of him waking up, but I thought I would share what is happening in our house and see if anyone has had similar stories or situation that they can offer advice to this tired mama.
Thanks in advance...

age 3

age of 3 is so FUN!
from playing pretend
to
ALWAYS TALKING
to
the one moment he is so sad
or MAD
and
MOMENTS LATER
he is hugging and kissing me
disciplining is not fun
sitting in the "think about it chair"
is not FUN at ALL to a three year old
but he needs to know that there are rules that he
MUST FOLLOW
and the MANY moments that he is running outside or inside naked this usually happens after he goes potty
I am thankful that he is completely potty trained, but keeping up with that naked boy sometimes can be exhausting...ha!

Or the MANY times he asks me if it is his birthday and can he have a Pirate Party.  He also goes into details of his party.  He likes birthday parties.

Boys at three are busy!

one of my favorite things each and every day is hearing the words that come out of Grayson's mouth... he is too funny!
Here are a few things that we hear all the time:
After Later
It is my FAVORITE thing
I need to
It hurts me
That makes me sad
Your not my friend anymore
Because I need to
WHY? - I hear this about 100 times a day...
That's my favorite part...
That makes me happy
It is my Job - he gets this because I tell him it is my job to work each day when he goes to school so now he goes around telling me it is his Job for example last week it was his job to be Iron Man
Is it an Erica Day? - Ms. Erica is a teacher at school and he LOVES her and asks me EVERYDAY if it is an Erica Day
Daddy what are you doing here
Did you hear that and than he puts his hand up to his ear
I want to make a pallet - this is when he wants to take ALL of the pillows of the couch and lay them on the ground to lay on and watch cartoons

He has been talking a lot about when he grows up...
last night this was our conversation
